The government has pledged to source funds for the rehabilitation of the bridge linking Beitbridge to Chiredzi.

The bridge was destroyed by floods in 2012 leading to severe movement challenges of people and goods between the two districts.

Following a recent visit by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development Dr Joram Gumbo to Beitbridge district to access the state of roads, the government has pledged to immediately start sourcing funds for the rehabilitation of the bridge linking Beitbridge and Chiredzi district.

The bridge was swept away in 2012 following the flooding of the Bubi and Limpopo rivers.

Beitbridge East legislator, who is also the Minister of State Security Kembo Mohadi says the poor state of the roads is negatively affecting the implementation of developmental programmes in the district.

The visit by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development to the Gwanda, Beitbridge, Bulilima and Mangwe districts has yielded positive results as resources have since been committed in all the four districts to rehabilitate key roads.

The development is also aimed at aiding the movement of grain to the people in the face of a devastating drought caused by the El Nino weather phenomenon.
