A 44-year-old car dealer resorted to committing suicide by drinking a poisonous substance last Friday after failing to deliver vehicles worth more than $20,000 that he had been commissioned to import from Japan by a number of people.
The Bikita car dealer was identified as Donati Mujaji.
One of the people who last year gave Mujaji $7,000 to import a vehicle on his behalf on Monday told Chronicle that he had taken the matter to court and a hearing had been scheduled for Thursday.
Masvingo police confirmed the incident.
"I can confirm the sudden death by suicide of a Bikita businessman. The deceased is said to have consumed poison but the reason is unknown. His body was taken to Silveira Mission Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Police are still investigating the matter," Acting Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa said.
