The Zimbabwe government has commenced the annual national malaria spraying programme in all the 45 malaria prone districts in the country to reduce the breeding of mosquito parasites ahead of the onset of the rainy season.
Malaria is rated the third most common killer disease in the country after HIV and AIDS, and tuberculosis.
Health and Child Welfare Deputy Minister, Dr Douglas Mombeshora said the spraying programme is progressing well, adding that the provincial teams set up to conduct the programme are moving according to the set target.
The malaria season stretches from November to May but the malaria spraying programme is conducted from October to December in all the 45 malaria prone districts.
The Ministry of Health and Child Welfare is using the DDT insecticide for the indoor residual spraying programme.
The distribution of mosquito nets is also expected to commence soon.
