ZimFirst Leader Maxwell Shumba has said that despite the fact that Zimbabwe is an independent country it was without doubt that many families were starving and eating what can only be eaten by hungry people only.

Shumba said a singer once wrote, "This a free country, free beyond doubt. If you can't afford your dinner, you are free to go without."Ironic as it may sound, this aptly describes the kind of freedom we are experiencing in Zimbabwe.

"Our children are suffering from starvation, eating things only edible to the starving. I challenge the youth to ask their grandparents, aunts and uncles if they ever ate soya mince, chicken intestines and pet mince commonly known as (makanyanisi) when growing up. They will tell you that they grew up eating fish, meat, vegetables in peanut butter sauce and other healthy stuff. Zimbabwe was a land of plenty, with wild fruits and honey in abundance. Where are the fish, meat and wild fruits now you may ask?" he said.

"The answer is there for all to see. Everything that Zimbabwe had prided itself of has been taken by Mugabe and his cronies and the so called liberators aka war vets. To understand the extent of their selfishness and greed, one has just to look at the list of demands the war vets presented to Mugabe their patron on 7 April 2016."

Shumba said their shameless justification is, ‘we freed Zimbabwe'.

"What freedom is there when people are starving? When people are dying of curable diseases just because there are no medicines and health personnel to attend to them? When school going age children are forced to drop out of school to earn an elusive US dollar to survive? When young women and girls are forced into selling their bodies to make a living? When people have to cross crocodile infested rivers and scale electric and razor fences to go into neighbouring countries?" Shumba said.

"When the very land they took from the whites is given freely to the Chinese? When our minerals and wildlife are being daily taken to china? When there is nothing to look forward to, when there is darkness and gloom everywhere? When our youth are dying miserable and lonely deaths in neighbouring countries where they are trying to eke a living."

He said what freedom is there when one is unable to work because jobs are just not there, What freedom is there when all you have experienced is constant struggle to survive?

"What freedom is there when your parents' means of livelihood has been destroyed and you can't even help them? When you see parents and grandparents die for want of nourishment and lost hope? Without shame they stand and tell you they fought for your freedom. They tell you that they liberated you. From what did they free and liberate you? Is it you who owns mansions and numerous farms?" he said.

"Is it you who has fleets of the latest cars? Are you the one going to foreign and expensive universities and giving birth to your babies in Malaysia just because Zimbabwe's facilities are below your standards? Have the so called liberators ever tasted machunks and makanyanisi. Have they ever had a sleepless night because there was no twenty dollars for primary school fees? Have they ever crossed the border to look for a piece job leaving their children with nothing to stop the burning misery in their bellies?"

He said have the so called liberators been caught by brutal foreign police and held in stinky, cramped cells, have they ever experienced humiliation and canning at the hands of foreign chiefs?

"Zimbabweans are desperate and all they want is someone who can give them a glimmer of hope as they reel under economic hardships. Under normal circumstances they would see through Joyce Teurairopa Mujuru's ‘concerned liberator's façade'. They would know that she and her other so called war vet colleagues have nothing to offer beyond words and a desire to molest and fleece them. A leopard never changes its spots and "Shiri inomuririro wayo haiuregi." he said.

"With donor fatigue Grace Mugabe ‘Amai' (as she demands to be called) has positioned herself as the saviour of the nation. She is filling a void and is in a better spot as she can give people freebies which many opposition political parties cannot afford these days. If we are not careful, she will be the next president and the country will sink deeper into anarchy. I urge you the youth to say no to a meal for a day, when tomorrow there is nothing. Let's refuse to be fed of crumbs from our own birthday cake."

"The best way to is to take action that says, ‘We are here, we demand to be heard, we are reclaiming our dreams, our future that you have stolen.' I have heard it said, ‘Tajaira Nhamo yedu'. Why should you get used to suffering, to eat things that poison the body instead of nourishing it, to get sub-standard healthcare or no care at all, to have no access to basic education and training? It is your right to benefit from Zimbabwe's natural resources and wealth, it is your right to have a say and take part in decisions that affect you, it is your right to have a place in political and economic dialogues,": he added.

Shumba urged youth to go around the country connecting with people and making sure that they understand that their true freedom comes with change of government.

"Because you are many, you have an advantage when it comes to engaging your friends, parents, uncles, aunts and grandparents. Move forward and start right now. For some, this can be scary, in light of past experiences, while for others, it will be unfamiliar terrain. All this is okay; you do your bit and others to theirs and by harnessing each other's core competencies we will prevail," he said.

"To prepare for a brighter future Zimbabwe First has put together a platform for fresh ideas and fresh legs. The platform had the young for the vision and the old for their wisdom, If we all stand up together on this platform called Zimbabwe First to sing Nyika Vanhu, Vanhu Ndiyo Nyika, Abantu Ilizwe, lilizwe Ngabantu we will collectively gather enough strength to usher a new era for Zimbabwe. An era which gives meaning to the Independence Day. Together we start a new era defined by a selfless ideology of Country First, People First and our Zimbabwe First."

HE said a new dawn is arriving under the Zimfirst banner, ajourney of a thousand miles starts with a single step and it took them one solid year to develop a new selfless, dedicated and patriotic leadership with fresh ideas and fresh legs.

"In the coming days through the press we will unveil our Fresh Legs and Fresh Ideas leadership which is replete with patriots from all ranks of life. The leadership to be unveiled defines what Zimbabwe wants First; true sons and daughters who will provide the Final Voice to end all Mugabe maladies that made us cry daily as a nation and rendered today's Independence Day meaningless," Shumba said.

"What to expect going forward: The Final Voice Team will be knocking at your doors giving you information on what the next steps on the road map towards a brighter future for Zimbabwe. The Final Voice Team will be armed with our Manifesto that provides you with our commitment to get Zimbabwe working again. We will ask you to join and TOGETHER we will win it in 2018 and give Zimbabweans real reasons to celebrate our independence. The platform for Fresh Legs, Fresh Ideas is our gift to Zimbabwe on a day which has lost meaning under ZANU PF rule."
