Mugabe accuse youth of moral decadence

President Robert Mugabe has bemoaned moral decadence among youths, saying some are just searching for pleasure and nothing else.
ZBC reported that addressing youths who graced the 36th independence children's party at the City Sports Centre in Harare today, Mugabe said 'some youths have not lived to our expectations,' adding that promiscuity and drug abuse is rife among the group.
"We have heard of wild parties that the youths are engaging in, where drugs are peddled and abused. The rate of promiscuity among youths is also alarming," said Mugabe.
He added that people no longer value ethics and good behaviour, adding that peer pressure is impacting negatively on the youths.
Mugabe said education is the most important resource necessary for any country's social and economic development, adding that students should develop internal self discipline during their learning career.
He said education is a multi-sectoral activity that should see all stakeholders being involved especially parents.
Mugabe reaffirmed government's readiness to commence the school feeding programme beginning next term to mitigate the effects of drought on learners.
He urged school authorities to coordinate with the parents so that they also meaningfully participate in the feeding programme so that there won't be a decrease in school enrolments and the capacity of schools to retain those already in school.
The 36th independence children's party was attended by children representing the country's 10 provinces.
Several entertainment activities were lined up and apart from music performances, a Grade 1 pupil at Mwanandishe Primary School in Harare, Leonard Bhamu left other school children and invited guests speechless when he performed a poem narrating the life story and the road travelled by Mugabe in his quest to bring independence to the country.
Child parliamentarians and school children from Mai Mugabe School in Mazowe also attended.
The children's party is held every year on the eve of the independence celebrations.
Zimbabwe marks 36 years of independence tomorrow (Monday) and all is now set.
