Sources said there was communication breakdown in the musician's camp about the time they would perform. Music superstar Oliver Mtukudzi failed to turn up for a show at The Platinum, formerly Pick and Save, in Mutare on Sunday.

Dubbed "Independence Eve" the gig was set to feature the "Patapata" singer and gospel musician Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave.Sources said there was communication breakdown in the musician's camp about the time they would perform.

"Initially the musician was told that it was an afternoon show by his management only to discover that it was an evening event forcing him to leave Mutare," he said.

Mtukudzi's manager Sam Mataure however, refuted the claims saying the musician had rushed to Kwekwe to attend a memorial service.

"We had come for the show but he just received a message from Kwekwe and he had to rush there," he said.

Mataure went on to make announcement about the cancellation of the show on the popular Manicaland Radio station Diamond FM.

Event organiser Esau Mupfumi said they had agreed to have the show on Friday at the same venue.

"Yes the situation went out of control but we have set this coming Friday as the day for another show. I will not say much about what happened this afternoon because we have already resolved everything," he said.

He said the musician had agreed to pay back all the money that had been used for marketing of the gig.

"We lost a lot of money in the process but the musician has agreed to refund us. We would like to apologise to our patrons for the inconvenience," he said.

Few fans who turned up were entertained by Hossia Chipanga.
