TWO Mutare City Council employees were recently hauled before the courts on allegations of stealing tyres worth $400.
Manica Post reported that the duo, Leslie Mushati (31), Cosmas Makore (37) and another accomplice, Eugene Mushandure (31) all pleaded guilty to theft when they appeared before Mutare senior magistrate, Sekai Chiundura.Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.
Mushandure was being represented by Tendai Nenzou.
Allegations were that the trio on April 10 hatched a plan to steal from the local authority's Mechanical Engineering Workshop.
Acting in connivance, they stole two tyres while planted detectives Shanu, Dube, Rumhungwe, Msipa and Shate were watching from a hiding spot.
"Mushandure hired a vehicle and ferried the tyres to his workplace where he stripped the rims and later sold them for $57," said Karombe.
They were remanded in custody to April 21for sentencing.
Chiundura, however, warned them that the court would not be lenient with them as they had betrayed the trust bestowed on them by their employer.
The tyres are valued at $400 and were recovered.
