Mugabe's 2018 candidature endorsed for the 2018 general elections

THE Zanu-PF leadership in Masvingo has reaffirmed its support for President Robert Mugabe and endorsed his candidature for the 2018 general elections. This, the leadership, said came in the wake of reports that some elements within the revolutionary party sent messages to the effect that some executive members are against the leadership of President Mugabe.
In an interview after a provincial coordinating committee meeting at Masvingo Polytechnic yesterday acting chairman Amasa Nhenjana said Masvingo province is behind the leadership of President Mugabe and the First Family.
He said allegations that anyone was against the President does not represent the wishes of the executive. He said reports of that nature are mere fabrications meant to divide and destroy the party.
"As Zanu-PF Masvingo we're declaring our unparalleled allegiance to the President and First Secretary of the party Mugabe and the First Family. "We're reaffirming and endorsing his candidature for the 2018 general elections contrary to the unconfirmed reports doing the rounds that the province was no longer behind President Mugabe," said Nhenjana.
He said the province's love for President Mugabe was demonstrated during the 21st February Movement celebration held in the province in February. "There were more than 50,000 people at this year's 21st February Movement bash at the Great Zimbabwe Monuments who came to the venue on their own accord and we only provided transport and food.
"That shows how we love our President and the First Family as opposed to these malicious claims. Masvingo had the highest number of votes during 2013 general elections and we won all 26 seats."
He said the meeting resolved that Pupurai Togarepi leads an investigation to identify the source of the messages after which the culprits would be named and shamed.
"[Josaya] Hungwe said he was summoned by the President over this issue and we want to know who did that. We had all politburo members comprising Paul Mangwana, Lovemore Matuke, Masvingo Senator Clemence Makwarimba, as well as Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Shuvai Mahofa who also heard about these unfounded allegations," he said.
Nhenjana also dismissed unconfirmed reports that Masvingo province is circulating information that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa will take over from President Mugabe as the new President of the country.
"We don't know where people are getting this information from saying that we know that Mnangagwa will usurp power from President Mugabe. We don't know that and it's mere fabrication meant to destroy the party," he added.
He said the meeting did not deal with issues of suspension involving provincial members, saying it is the prerogative of the national disciplinary committee (NDC). "The issue of suspended chairman Ezra Chadzamira is still with the NDC and we're waiting for communication from the top," he said.
Chadzamira was suspended early this year on allegations of disobedience and insolence together with Midlands chairman Kizito Chivamba and Mashonaland East chairman Joel Biggie Matiza.
