Suspected MDC-T supporters attacked Zanu PF members carrying out an audit of party structures in Harare's Hatcliff suburb.
The Zanu PF audit exercise had to end prematurely as MDC-T activists disrupted the process causing mayhem and chaos when they stoned Zanu PF supporters and residents of the suburb.
The activists also engaged in running battles with the police.
Zanu PF DCC 4 Harare Provincial Chairman, Jason Passade, who was leading the audit exercise, gave an account of what transpired at the verification centre.
One of the victims of the political violence was coming from church and had his car damaged by the marauding hooligans when they attacked him without warning.
He sustained head injuries from the attack.
The suspected MDC-T activists even stoned the vehicle of Superintendent Amos Nyakurima.
The police were forced to call for reinforcement but the sheer numbers of the suspected MDC-T supporters on the rampage, who were in the company of Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr Ian Makone needed the intervention of the armoured police reaction unit to restore order in the suburb.
Makone's wife, Theresa, who is the local Member of the House of Assembly for the area and also Co-Minister of Home Affairs was reportedly to have been in the suburb when the violence broke out.
One of the MDC-T activists, who was taken in by some Zanu PF supporters, confessed to having been sponsored by his party to get involved in the violent acts.
An MDC-T legislator, Mr Willias Madzimure defended his party's violent activities and even warned of a possible uprising against the government he is ironically part of.
Harare Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector James Sabau could not reveal details of the outbreak of violence, saying he was still gathering information.
The MDC-T party has a history of violence and its leaders have been accused of preaching peace in the public only to sponsor violence in the backdoor.
