Caps United skipper Method Mwanjali was yesterday released on $100 bail after spending five days in remand prison on charges of allegedly stabbing another man following a misunderstanding in a drunken brawl last week.
He is facing attempted murder charges.
Justice David Mangota granted Mwanjali bail coupled with conditions that ensure he attends trial.
The State did not oppose bail.
He was ordered to deposit $100 bail and report once a week at Harare Central Police Station.
He was also ordered not to interfere with witness and reside at the given address until the matter is finalised. After the court order was pronounced, Mwanjali's lawyer, Mr Tinofara Kudakwashe Hove, immediately deposited the bail money.
Last week, the matter was deferred to enable the State to file its response and a medical affidavit.
Justice Samuel Kudya, who presided over the bail hearing on Friday last week, had requested for the medical affidavit to enable the court to ascertain the extent of injuries suffered by the stab victim.
Mwanjali (33) allegedly stabbed Tonderai Nhunzvi with a knife in the early hours of Independence Eve following an altercation in the parking lot at Longcheng Plaza in Belvedere, Harare.
He appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe, challenging his placement on remand but it was thrown out for lack of merit.
He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court because the magistrates' court has no jurisdiction over such matters.
Mr Hove filed the bail application on Thursday, a day after Mwanjali was remanded in custody.
The hearing hit a snag after the court requested to see the medical report while the State requested for time to file their response.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Mpumalanga Black Aces defender's victim is battling for his life in a Harare hospital.
He was allegedly stabbed twice in the stomach.
Mwanjali's accomplice and team mate Archford Gutu was also granted $100 bail and will appear in court on the same day.
Gutu is facing malicious damage to property.
The State alleges that the parties to the dispute met at an intersection in the Longcheng Plaza complex where their vehicles almost collided, leading to a heated exchange of words and the stabbing.
Gutu, who was behind the wheel, allegedly got out of the vehicle and charged towards Nhunzvi, who had three passengers on board and confronted him accusing him of reckless driving.
As Gutu was shouting, Nhunzvi reportedly closed his car windows and this irritated Gutu, who allegedly then smashed the windscreen using an unknown object.
Mwanjali allegedly joined in the melee and drew a knife out and is said to have stabbed Nhunzvi twice in the stomach.
Nhunzvi's friend, Lionel Muchena, who reportedly tried to stop Mwanjali from stabbing Nhunzvi, was caught in the crossfire and sustained a cut on his hand.
