MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has assured the growing gay community that he wont drag them to court if he assumes power.

Tsvangirai told reporters at Bulawayo Press Club on Friday that he would not in any way attempt to temper with their freedom as enshrined in the Constitution.

"I will not stand to persecute gays," he said.

"I know in our society gays are shunned upon and as far as I am concerned I am not gay, I don't support gays. I only want to say that I will not prosecute or persecute gays because in the Constitution they are given that right."

There is a growing band of gays in the country.

President Robert Mugabe is on record describing homosexuals as "worse than pigs and dogs."
