Biggie Zhanje dies

The 'Rudo Ndimandivhaidza' hit maker, Biggie Zhanje, has died.

Zhanje, real name Wellington Jonga, had not been well for a while and died on Friday afternoon at his home in Hopley, Harare.

Zhanje is a former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation presenter and musician.

Family spokesperson Bothwell Jonga told ZBC News that Zhanje is going to be laid to rest in Madziva area of Mt Darwin this Sunday.

Musicians who include Pastor Charles Charamba, James Nyamandi and Takesure Muronzi said the music industry will never be the same without the late Zhanje.

Big Zhanje became a household name in the 80s with his hit song "Rudo Ndimandivhaidza" and was also into poetry.

Zhanje began his music career in the late 80s with his first album, Dundwe Remazwi, becoming an instant hit and was frequently played on air.

Some of his well known songs include Dundwe Remazwi, Zondo, Vaisekwa Mai and many more.

Zhanje worked for ZBC's Radio Zimbabwe as a presenter before leaving in 2012.

He used to present programmes such as Dzemagitare, Dzevechidiki, Detembai Tinzwe, among other programmes.

He also worked at Zimpapers as a Kwayedza reporter between 1992 to 1994.

At the time of his death, Zhanje was teaching at Tariro Primary School in Hopley.
