Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko and his delegation, which included Nkayi North legislator, Sithembiso Nyoni, visited Nkayi district hospital to have an appreciation of the challenges that are affecting service delivery at the health institution.
Mphoko also donated 10 glucometers which are meant to diagnose blood pressure and diabetes to the hospital to enable the health institution to attend to these cases.
Some of the challenges the hospital is facing include shortage of water, inadequate shelter for expecting mothers as well as broken down laundry machines.
Vice President Mphoko told the Nkayi community that there is need to work together to overcome the socio-economic challenges facing the country.
Acting District Medical Director, Dr Heron Dube said the equipment donated by the Vice President will enhance the hospital capacity in dealing with cases of diabetes and high blood pressure which are prevalent in the district.
Mphoko also donated 80 bags of rice to assist the community which is in need of food aid due to the current drought.
40 of those bags have been given to the hospital which has also been struggling to feed patients.
