A house of Assembly member  Mackenzie Ncube has questioned the government's plans to stabilise the Kariba Dam wall considering the reports that the wall was continuously becoming unstable.

"My question is directed to the Minister of Energy and Power Development. There are technical reports which indicate that the Kariba Dam wall is
progressively getting unstable. What measures or policy measures are you putting in place to make sure that we avert a national disaster?" he asked.

Energy and Power Development Samuel Undege said from the outset they do have a bilateral organisation called the Zambezi River Authority which
oversees the safety of the Dam, the use of the Zambezi River in terms of livelihoods of the people who live around the dam and power generation.

"They continuously monitor what is going on there and the safety of the dam etc. What is currently underway is to repair what we call the plunge pool,"
Undenge said. "Funds to that effect have been secured so as to ensure that it does not retreat towards the dam wall. Otherwise, let me tell the Hon.
Member not to worry too much because everything is being attended to continuously."

"I am also the current chairperson of the Zambezi River Authority which I co-chair with my colleague in Zambia," he said.
