HARARE residents are set for another  dry weekend, the second time this month.

The local authority says it will on Saturday shut down its main water treatment plant, Morton Jaffray Water Works, to facilitate the replacement of obsolete equipment.

The city has urged residents to store adequate supplies before the shutdown and use the water sparingly.

"The City of Harare wishes to advise residents of a scheduled complete shutdown of Morton Jaffray Water Works from 6am on 21 to 22 May 2016.

"The city is taking advantage of the winter season when water usage is at its lowest to complete the retrofitting of the new equipment," said the city's acting corporate communications manager,  Michael Chideme.

Harare City Council is implementing the Harare Water and Sanitation Rehabilitation Project under a $144 million Chinese facility.

Work on the project began in April 2013 and the contractor, China Machinery and Engineering Corporation, has completed various works.

Upon completion of the project, water supply is expected to rise to 670 megalitres from 400 megalitres.
