'I suggested cutting Presidential term,' says Mugabe

COLOGNE - President Robert Mugabe, says he is the one who first suggested cutting the country's presidential term limit from six to five years, despite accusations that he has overstayed in office, Spotlight Zimbabwe, has just revealed.
Mugabe made the disclosure, during an audio interview in Harare in 2007, with a Canadian Televison firm OMNI.
The Zanu PF leader said the move would also cut election costs for the nation. Prior to 2013, the president was elected for a 6-year term with no term limits.
The new Constitution approved in the 2013 constitutional referendum limits the president to two 5-year terms.
The short audio track first surfaced in 2013, but the publication on Tuesday retrieved it for the benefit of those who missed it.
