Politicians face eviction from government houses

SOME politicians who are renting out Government houses are facing eviction to accommodate deserving civil servants, a Cabinet minister has said.
National Housing and Social Amenities minister, Giles Mutsekwa said his minister has engaged on an exercise whose agenda is to flush out some of the politicians who are either renting out the properties they got or have put their relatives at the expense of civil servants.
"We have moved in to evict none-civil servants who have been staying in Government houses to curb the shortage of accommodation for civil servants.
"There deserve senior civil servants who have no accommodation while some people are illegally staying in the houses and individuals instead of Government were benefiting," he said.
The minister added that Government has established that some politicians stayed in the house and resisted to vacate them even after Government ordered them to go because they have connections with "retired" senior civil servants.
He expressed government's commitment to providing decent housing for civil servants saying Government was aware of the acute shortage of accommodation for its workforce and was being constrained by lack of financial resources to construct more houses and flats.
