Controversial Zanu PF activist Energy Mutodi has claimed that the one million march is a test to see if President Robert Mugabe still has the support ahead of the 2018 elections.
"About 10 000 people have already congregated at East 24 golf grounds in preparation for the march in solidarity with President Mugabe. The youths who are preparing to march along Samora Machel are expected to be addressed by His Excellence President Robert Mugabe," Mutodi. "The objective of the March is however not clear as some in the party believe it is a show off of power and authority by the president over his long time loyalist and Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is accused of leading a faction opposed to President Mugabe's continued rule."
Mutodi Zimbabwe has known only one president since gaining independence from Britain in 1980 and there is no hope that a new leader can come anytime soon.
"While President Mugabe has done exceptionally well in African political affairs, leading the African Union and the SADC simultaneously in a mission he concluded last year, he has failed on the economic front as companies continue to close shop citing viability problems leading to high levels of unemployment," said Mutodi. "His government has also implemented populist policies such as the indigenization policy that economists believe make the country an unfavorable investment destination. His government also tops the list of corrupt regimes in Africa characterized by looting of government controlled firms as ministers and Sinior civil servants plunder public resources while investing the proceeds of their loot overseas."
Heb said the Zimbabwe National Army helicopter stands still over the venue where the youths are busing in and it could be checking if the are numbers adding up.
