A THREE-MONTH-OLD baby boy narrowly cheated death when he suffered burns while her mother had sneaked out to a night club.
The woman Pamela Kunangwa (20) of Mafungautsi area in Gokwe confirmed that her son got burnt when she had left him alone and gone clubbing.
She revealed that on the fateful day, she left home at around 7pm with the intention of returning after a few hours.
"I love my baby that is the reason I went out so I could get some money to buy him the necessary staff.
"It is unfortunate that on the day in question there was no electricity so I lit the candle before leaving for the club," said Pamela.
She revealed that it was not her first time to leave the baby alone and that whenever she left the house, she put on the light so the baby would not cry.
"I usually leave for about four hours and my timing is always correct because by the time of returning, he would still be sleeping so I was shocked when our neighbours phoned me saying the baby was crying out loud in the house," she revealed.
When she got to her home, neighbours were busy extinguishing the fire and her baby lying in the verandah.
"I am glad that they saved my baby because he is all that I have and that boy is my life. I suspect that one of the blankets caught fire leading to him getting burnt on one side of the body," she said. One neighbour who spoke on condition of anonymity said that when they ferried the baby to hospital, they were told to bring the police report. The baby was admitted at Gokwe hospital and is still receiving some treatment.
