Zanu-PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere has scoffed at ex-combatants' threats to reinstate seven provincial chairpersons suspended for fanning factionalism.

War veterans resolved at their Gweru meeting that they would work to ensure the reinstatement of the seven Zanu-PF provincial chairpersons Kizito Chivamba (Midlands), Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira (Masvingo), Joel Biggie Matiza (Mashonaland East), Godfrey Tsenengamu (Mashonaland central youth league), Edmore Samambwa (Midlands youth league), Vengai Musengi (Mashonaland West youth league) and Khumbulani Mpofu (Bulawayo youth league).

The resolution was made at countrywide meetings held by the former freedom fighters since their meeting with President Robert Mugabe in April.

Kasukuwere said the former freedom fighters had no locus standi to reinstate suspended party officials as that was Zanu-PF's prerogative.

"That remains an opinion of the war veterans which does not have an effect on party decisions," Kasukuwere said.

"The decisions we make are discussed at Zanu-PF not at some war veterans meeting so it's not worthy commenting on."
