The Mthwakazi Republic Party spokesperson Mbonisi Gumbo has said the application by Ndebeles living in South Africa for extension of their permits in that country claiming that they were being unfairly treated by Zimbabwean government which comprises many Shonas was a right move.
Zimbabwean Ndebeles repo5rtedly applied for separate extension of permits from their counter parts Shonas in SA stating that they are persecuted by Zimbabwean government.
"Following a publication by SABC that Zim Ndebeles have applied for a separate extension of permits from their Shona counterparts , stating that they are persecuted by Zimbabwean government," Gumbo said. "The letter stated unambiguously that the Ndebeles are segregated by a tribal government of Zimbabwe. Apparently this development has ignited a number of talking points from many interested parties, both the Ndebeles and the Shonas have portrayed mixed feelings some sympathetic some appalled."
He said some Ndebeles fundamentalist even questioned the authenticity of the author (Victor Mthethwa) and questioned his mandate.
"In my view , the letter is spot on, (Shot and Sharp).(1) It is true that the Ndebeles are persecuted by the government through genocide , skewed employment tendency , deployment of Shona teachers , police state in Matebeleland," he said. "It is true that the Ndebeles face different problem from their Shona counterparts , this is evident from migration statistics. The Shonas face a problem of economic collapse which is caused by a government that they have selected or continue to select in tribal perspective."
Gumbo said while the Ndebeles face a problem of being driven to extinction by all means necessary.
"Based on this the Ndebeles have migrated to South Africa many years back they were dispersed by Gukurahundi while the Shona only migrated in advent of economic disaster," he said. "If the world can condemn Xenophobia , racial Rhodesia , Apartheid South Africa what is so special about tribal Zimbabwe such that it cannot be condemned ?. Even though some of my friends I regard with great esteem felt that the letter is nothing short of groveling, the letter exposed many things even the issue of precolonial borders were discussed in SABC , that is good publicity."
