Protect the alleged female rapists: Betty Makoni

Muzvare Betty Makoni urges Government of Zimbabwe to protect the alleged female rapists from mob attacks.
Following the release of three women facing rape allegations last week, their security is under threat and they have been assaulted in public and could have lost their lives to angry mobs.
Muzvare Betty Makoni calls on the Government of Zimbabwe to protect the three women and to ensure that the police, who paraded the women countrywide, grant them security until their case is heard before the courts of law.
"Zimbabwe is a signatory to many international laws protecting women and we want to see strict adherence to these laws . If the case is as serious as previously reported in the media, the women should be protected until trial is over. Attempt to kill them is a clear way of destroying evidence which might be in favour of the women. The women have endured enough punishment from public insult and continued harassment and the bullying of these women must immediately stop," said Muzvare Betty Makoni.
In her opinion, if anyone in Zimbabwe was concerned about rape then they should have instituted instant justice on Dr Munyaradzi Kereke for allegedly raping an 11 year girl as well as many other rapists walking scot free in Zimbabwe.
"I think if the women say the condoms were used by their clients and can point to the clients then this can expose a lot of men in this whole case. I think the courts should order DNA tests on the named clients as well as on the alleged victims," said Muzvare Betty Makoni.
Betty Makoni alleges that men who covered this story in the media instigated mobs to kill the women so that evidence of truth of what happened is destroyed. She says no DNA results have been made public and just hearsay is making mobs have such outrage .
Muzvare Betty Makoni further questioned about when Zimbabwe started attacking alleged rapists. She say if this is the case then by now the male rapists she knows should have lost their lives.
