The Mthwakazi Republic Party has claimed that its membership cards are selling like hot cakes signifying that it was recording significant growth.
The party in a statement said testimony to the assertion by Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) that people of Mthwakazi in the present day Zimbabwe and those of Mthwakazi origin in the diaspora are fully behind the MRP agenda, we have seen an upsurge in the purchase of membership cards.
It said this is also testimony that more and more people are joining the party in droves.
Bulawayo Provincial Spokesman Ackim Gasela Mhlanga, speaking on behalf of the party's foreign affairs department made insinuations that more Mthwakazi people have finally realised the need for self determination, hence have of late heeded the call by MRP to join and demand their country.
This was in response to thousands buying membership cards both in Mthwakazi and neighbouring countries.
"We have been able to convince millions on the agenda of our party and as evidenced by the number of people joining, we are convinced we are preaching the right gospel in as far as the Mthwakazi question is concerned" said Mhlanga.
"Our people are treated as second and third class citizens in a country of their own by the colonialist regime in Harare. Our land has been parceled out to foreigners from Zimbabwe as the colonialists are led by the Zanu PF regime to physically and permanently displace our people" Mhlanga thundered.
He said the party is however happy and satisfied by the response to the call for self determination.
"The people of Mthwakazi, both in and outside the country now understand what they need to do and together with them, MRP will deliver our nation.
"We do not have sponsorship for our party programs so we rely on members for funds. We therefore are selling membership cards, for $2 or R30 and we are impressed with the response in that area. People are buying them like hit cakes and this has kept us going in terms of programs funding" said Mhlanga.
It is yet to be seen whether the uptake of the membership cards translates to growth in membership and structures of the party.
Asked , Mhlanga said, "who does buy cards of a party they do not belong to in this economy? Why waste money unless one wants to join the party? All these people are members of MRP".
