Patron of the John Landa Nkomo Memorial Trust, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo, yesterday sent a condolence message to the Nkomo family following the death of Mrs Macitshi Dube Nkomo, affectionately known as uGogo uMaDube.
uGogo uMaDube, who died on Tuesday afternoon, was mother to the late Vice President and national hero John Landa Nkomo.
She was 112 years old.
"The death of uGogo uMacitshi Nkomo has thrown the Tsholotsho community and the nation into darkness," he said in a statement yesterday.
Ambassador Moyo said uGogo Nkomo was a granary of knowledge who would be greatly missed.
"We have been robbed of a granary of knowledge, a fountain of wisdom and a beacon of hope. uGogo uMaDube gave us the late Vice President John Landa Nkomo, a visionary and a man of impeccable qualities," he said.
Ambassador Khaya Moyo said the nation still missed the late Vice President and would also miss uGogo uMaDube.
"Ugogo Nkomo's deeds live forever. We cherish her humility and her advice on all issues, which advance humanity.
"She lived a purposeful life and had a solid character, which we will forever cherish. She was also a woman of prayer.
"May her soul anchor and rest in eternal peace. Hamba kahle uGogo wethu sonke! Lala ngokuthula MaDube," said Ambassador Moyo.
uGogo uMaDube died on Tuesday due to complications related to old age after having been discharged from Mater Dei Hospital two weeks ago.
Her fourth born son, Mr Philip Nkomo, said his mother had been blessed to live a long life and had finally taken her resting place.
"Our mother is a blessed woman because few have lived to her age. We thank God for granting her the opportunity to live this long and to see her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
"We consider her to be a heroine because she single-handedly raised her nine children after her husband passed away in 1963," said Mr Nkomo.
uGogo uMaDube is survived by six children and 152 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be buried at her homestead in Bhule 1, Tsholotsho, on Sunday.
