TWO ex-convicts who were recently released from Gwanda prison through the Presidential amnesty were on Thursday back behind bars after one of them was apprehended wearing their victim's stolen clothes.
Thulani Zibusiso Dube (32) and Trymore Qhubekhani Moyo (28) appeared before Gwanda magistrate, Mr Arafat Konzanai facing unlawful entry and theft charges for breaking into a house in Jacaranda suburb and stealing property worth $298.
The pair also cooked and bathed in the house.
Dube pleaded guilty and was sentenced to an effective 17 months in jail.
His accomplice, who had pleaded not guilty, was convicted and sentenced to an effective 21 months in prison.
Passing sentence on Moyo, the magistrate said he arrived at the decision after taking into account that he had wasted the court's time by pleading not guilty yet he knew he committed the offence.
Dube told the court that they stole the property and shared it.
He said they had intended to sell the property to raise money to go to Moyo's rural home in Tsholotsho as Gwanda was proving to be a hostile environment.
Prosecutor, Mr Moses Gondongwe, said on June 3, the pair went to a house in Jacaranda suburb.
The owner of the house was not at home at the time and they used iron bars to break into two rooms and stole a home theatre, paraffin stove, solar battery, solar inverter, suitcase, cellphone and clothes all amounting to $298.
Investigations led to the arrest of Dube at a night spot in the Gwanda town centre while wearing the victim's clothes.
Following his arrest, Dube implicated Moyo.
