Government intensifies food distribution

The government has intensified the food distribution programme to vulnerable households in Mashonaland Central Province, with beneficiaries expressing gratitude for the timeous intervention.
The food distribution programme in drought stricken areas of the province is progressing well with the districts receiving their monthly allocations on time.
Speaking during the handover of monthly allocations to households at Elgin farm in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central Minister of State, Advocate Martin Dinha reiterated the need for transparency in the distribution of the food aid.
The government has been commended for the drought relief intervention but calls are growing that it should consider increasing the number of beneficiaries.
In Mashonaland Central Province, over 85 000 households are receiving drought relief under the Vulnerable Food Assistance Programme, while 25 000 more are benefiting under the Public Works Programme.
