A 52-year-old Harare man and his son on Tuesday appeared in court for striking their fellow villager with an axe and an iron bar following an undisclosed misunderstanding.

Kim Fungira and his son James (34) were facing attempted murder and assault charges when they appeared before magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe.

They were remanded in custody to June 30 for trial.

It is alleged that on the fateful day, Freddy Chinyama was drinking beer at a bottle store in Chinamhora together with his twin brother, who told him that they were supposed to go home before a misunderstanding ensued, since they were drunk. It is alleged that Kim assaulted Chinyama, who was then rescued by his twin brother and they proceeded home.

It is the State case that while on their way home, Chinyama heard a voice shouting for help and he decided to go and investigate, leaving his twin brother behind.

Upon arrival, he was assaulted with an iron bar by James and he lost two teeth and sustained an injury on his right hand shoulder.

The court heard that Kim came with an axe and struck Chinyama once on the forehead and he sustained a deep cut.
