A man who was a passenger in a kombi travelling from Masvingo to Mutusva Primary School on Tuesday last week could not complete his journey after he disembarked to have a recess along the way and then fell in a 20 metre deep pit.
Masvingo Mirror reported that Andras Murerekwa (46) of Daremba Village under Chief Murinye is said to have bought beer at Nemwana Growth Point and was drinking as they travelled. At Dare Village in Nemanwa under Chief Murinye the kombi stopped to drop passengers and Andras asked for recess.
He disappeared into a bush and did not come back. Sources said because he was drunk, he did not notice the pit and he slipped and fell 20meters to the bottom.
The worried driver, Cephas Mutime and passengers went to look for him after he delayed to come back but decided to proceed with the journey after failing to find him.
On Saturday Nkosana Mudare (16) of Chidare Village under Chief Murinye of Masvingo and Aaron Masasike of the same village passed by and they saw Murerekwa in the pit and pulled him out.
He was still alive but he had a broken leg and was complaining that his head was aching.
Police Spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the incident. He was taken to Mashenjere clinic where he was transferred to Morgenster Hospital and he died on the way.
