Arthur Mutambara, Welshman Ncube
PROFESSOR Welshman Ncube might be the new Deputy Prime minister of Republic of Zimbabwe this week.
Prof Ncube is expected to replace Professor Arthur O.G Mutambara courtesy of a High Court judgment in his favour.
The judgment will be handed down this week or early week confirming or otherwise that Prof Ncube is the legitimate leader of the MDC formation and interdicting Prof Mutambara from masquerading as the MDC leader.
Prof Ncube currently holds an interim order in his favour and if confirmed he is the new Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe.
Even Zanu PF hardliners like Professor Jonathan Moyo have predicted victory for the constitutional law expert and a political Waterloo for the robotics scientists and have said Prof Ncube is the "undisputed" leader of MDC.
Writing for the state controlled – Sunday Mail – Prof Jonathan Moyo, in an article titled "Sinister schemes behind violence in Harare" - the former minister of state information in the president's office and cabinet said:
"While it would be far fetched to credit the historic inter party indaba with even a slim chance of containing the Harare violence, there was a notable political milestone last Friday with Welshman Ncube finally taking his seat as a GPA political principal in his now undisputed capacity as the leader of the smaller faction of the MDC, thereby putting paid to Arthur Mutambara's political fate in politics. "It was a decisive podium success by Ncube who now has every reason to believe that the High Court in Bulawayo will next week follow suit with the consequence of stripping Mutambara of the DPM post," wrote Prof Moyo in part.
Prof Mutambara led a break–away group at the MDC congress held in Harare in January this year contesting the constitutionality processes that were followed in the congress, which elected Prof Ncube as the party's president.
From there, Prof Ncube dragged Prof Mutambra and his group to the High Court of Bulawayo seeking a court order barring the latter from masquerading as the party leader, the court granted an interim relief he sought.
Prof Ncube's political problems mounted as President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Mr Morgan Tsvangirai agreed not to recognize him as the legitimate MDC leader and opted to work with the unelected Prof Mutambara.
If the High Court confirms the order, which is very likely, President Mugabe and PM Tsvangirai will have no choice but to make do with working with Prof Ncube as the DPM.
This will be a slap in the face of anti-Prof Ncube critics like PM Tsvangirai, DPM Thokozani Khupe, President Mugabe spokesperson George Charamba, law expert Prof Lovemore Madhuku amongst others who all have taken sides with the unelected Prof Mutambara.
