TWO brothers who are self-proclaimed prophets have appeared in court for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl who approached them for prayers.
One of the ‘prophets' later told her that demons that he had allegedly cast away would haunt her if she told anyone about the rape.
Andrew Mnkandla (41) and Lovemore Mnkandla (34) appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube facing rape charges.
They were not asked to plead and remanded in custody to July 21.
Prosecuting, Ms Magret Takawira told the court that the two siblings raped the 17-year-old girl on different occasions until she fell pregnant.
"The complainant and her father spent four days at Khami Mountains praying. They were in the company of accused person (Lovemore). On the fourth day the complainant's father was called back at work and he left the complainant in custody of the accused," said Ms Takawira.
She said after the father left, Lovemore told the girl that they should leave too.
"On their way back home the accused person dragged the complainant into a nearby bush and had unprotected sex with her. He told her that if she disclosed the information to anyone all the demons they had chased away would haunt her again," said Ms Takawira.
She said the other sibling, Andrew, also raped the girl at his home where she found him in the company of other churchmates.
"Their churchmates left the accused alone with the complainant. Accused person called complainant to his bedroom and raped her once without protection," said Ms Takawira.
In her statement, the girl narrated events that ensued after Andrew allegedly raped her.
"Lovemore came and found me with Andrew in the bedroom. Shortly thereafter my mother arrived looking for me. I heard them both telling her that they hadn't seen me," she said.
The girl said her mother noticed her vomiting and quizzed her. She narrated her ordeal leading to the arrest of the two brothers.
