A BRAVE married woman from Binga fought off a rapist who had sneaked into her bedroom hut at midnight by grabbing his manhood until he was weak, a court heard.
Mrs Christine Muzamba (21) from Simatelele under Chief Siachilaba allegedly endured midnight terror at the hands of Honest Mungombe (27) from the same area. Mungombe allegedly inserted two fingers into her privates before attempting to rape her at a time when her husband was at work in Gwanda.
Mungombe was charged with one count of unlawful entry and two others of aggravated indecent assault when he appeared before Hwange regional magistrate Mrs Dambudzo Malunga.
He pleaded not guilty and claimed that he was in love with the woman and only went to her homestead on April 17 after they had agreed to have sex.
Mungombe is alleged to have also visited the woman the previous day, but she refused to open door until he went through the window the next day.
"I deny the charges because we were in love. I bought her some groceries so we could have sex but when I went to her place on the first night she told me she was menstruating so we couldn't have sex. That's why I went back the next night but I was shocked when she refused to have sex with me," Mungombe told the magistrate.
He said he got infuriated and assaulted her while demanding his groceries back.
During cross examination, Mungombe alleged that Mrs Muzamba's parents were aware of the affair.
He said he occasionally bought them groceries and gave them fish.
Prosecuting, Mr Tawanda Sigauke said Mungombe preyed on Mrs Muzamba, who has a minor child, on April 7.
"The accused proceeded to the complainant's place of residence at midnight where he shook the door trying to open but it was locked from inside," said Mr Sigauke.
He said the complainant refused to open after she heard that it was Mungombe who was demanding sex.
"He demanded sex and when she didn't open the door, the accused went away and came back the following night around the same time. The accused gained entry through a window," Mr Sigauke said.
He said the complainant was awakened by the presence of an intruder who was standing by the side of her bed.
Mungombe allegedly immediately pushed her onto the bed, grabbed her and inserted his two fingers into her privates.
