Suspended Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana, who is facing fresh charges of criminal abuse of office and authority, has been granted US$2000 bail and asked to surrender surety of US$250000.
Allegations against Tomana dates back to 2008 when he was appointed Attorney General of Zimbabwe.
The former ZUPCO board member, Tomana, is alleged to have caused the withdrawal of charges of former ZUPCO CEO, Bright Matonga, who was facing charges of culpable homicide and another charge of corruption.
Tomana is also alleged to have set aside the conviction of Charles Nherera, a former ZUPCO board member who was jailed for three years on charges of abuse of office.
The state alleged that this was after Nherera unsuccessfully appealed against his conviction at the High Court and the Supreme Court.
In another count, Tomana is alleged to have caused the withdrawal of charges against a former Acting Bindura Medical Superintendent, Dr Beauty Basile, despite a number of witnesses having testified against her.
Meanwhile, Tomana is expected back in court on the 20th of July.
