Government says multi-national companies and financial institutions that are not willing to participate fully in the indigenisation and economic empowerment programme are free to go elsewhere as there is no going back on the policy.
While the country's indigenisation and economic empowerment programme has gained momentum, some companies are still in denial that the government is serious in ensuring that indigenous people gain control of their natural resources.
Some have complied as seen in the launch of the US$11 million Youth Development Fund by Old Mutual, while Community Share Ownership Trusts were also launched last month.
Speaking at the Africa Youth Day celebrations and the official launch of the Old Mutual Youth Development Fund, the Minister of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment, Saviour Kasukuwere said the government will not accept a trend in which multi-national institutions are trying to evade the whole programme.
"The law is very clear and will be implemented fully. We also want sanctions to go to allow young people to participate in our economy. I urge youths to direct themselves to opportunities that exist in our country to become employers, to become people who develop and build our national economy," said Kasukuwere.
Deputy Prime Minister, Professor Arthur Mutambara said the government's empowerment programme will stop the vicious circle of poverty amongst the young people which has resulted in their exploitation by politicians to fane violence.
Chiefs' Council President, Chief Fortune Charumbira castigated piecemeal programmes that do not eradicate poverty and called for sustainable development programmes for young people.
"The objectives of such [piecemeal] programmes are short term and they do not totally emancipate the youths," Chief Charumbira said.
Youth representatives from various economic, social and political organisations made representations, which were taken on board by the government for the formulation of strategies that will assist in their total emancipation.
Government ministers, politicians, development partners and youths from across the country attended the launch and commemorations to mark Africa Youth Day.
