Private media in Zimbabwe has today (Thursday) gone overdrive on the court appearance and subsequent release of pastor Evan Mawarire. On its front page Newsday said "a record 5 000 people thronged the Harare Magistrates' Court grounds".
It kicked off it's main article saying "There was drama in Harare yesterday when the State's frantic attempts to charge #ThisFlag campaign leader, Evan Mawarire with subverting a constitutionally-elected government failed to stick, culminating in his release.
"His day-long court appearance before magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe was also punctuated with drama, after a record 5 000 people thronged the Harare Magistrates' Court grounds in solidarity with the cleric".
However, various social media users estimated the crowd slightly over 1000.
Shockingly, Daily News was cautious on figures as it said there was "pandemonium" when "hundreds" of Zimbabweans turned up to support Mawarire.
