Former Home Affairs minister has condemned government for misleading and abusing the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

Dumiso Dabengwa said police brutality is appauling and   they" should move out of society if they don't want to protect".

"Government misleads police. Police have gone for UN Peacekeeping missions,do well there but when they come back to Zimbabwe, its different," he said.

Dabengwa said during his tenure he made efforts to amend the Law and Order Act but President Mugabe objected.

"I tried to amend the Law and Order rule, revert from what was used during colonial era.

"In my time police were taught manners.

As Home Affairs Minister I encouraged the police to treat and handle the public with respect and serve them well.

"When I left ministerial post,I heard President declined to assent to the amended POSA saying it gave people to much power."

Dabengwa said reversing his efforts in Home Affairs showed that government is dedicated to destroy and rule by force.

"Police are supposed to protect and serve public.

"Protect property but now their recent actions go against it".
