Tsvangirai criticised over VP appointments
15 Jul 2016 at 13:04hrs | Views
MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has come under attack for appointing two more vice presidents.
Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri have been elevated to vice presidents.
This brings to three the number of vice presidents together with Thokozani Khupe.
Critics said Tsvangirai is a hypocrite as he is well known for critising President Robert Mugabe for having two vice presidents.
In appointing the pair Tsvangirai said : "In line with the directive given to me by the National Council yesterday, I have now appointed Hon. Nelson Chamisa and Hon Elias Mudzuri as Vice Presidents of the party. The two will join Hon. Thokozani Khupe in assisting me in the execution of my responsibilities and preparing the party for the next election".
A cross section of Zimbabweans took to twitter airing their views when the news filtered out.
Some said Khuphe has been elbowed out of succeeding ailing Tsvangirai.
Former Chronicle editor Mduduzi Mathuthu questioned the logic of the appointments since Tsvangirai criticized Mugabe for merely having two deputies.
@Mathuthu "Question is, why does Tsvangirai need THREE deputies when he has previously urged Mugabe to have just the one?
"Far from discouraging Nelson Chamisa's ambitions, Morgan Tsvangirai might just have blown wind to his sails with a placating VP appointment".
Journalist @violetgonda said "What a week. Mudzuri and Chamisa appointed co-VPs in MDC-T with Thoko Khupe. Why 3? #thisflag".
Another journalist Sibusisiwe Bhebhe, @BusieBhebhe said
"Suddenly Khuphe has no chance at that presidency. She has been rendered redundant. I feel shes been used all along".
@BekiZW said "Basically, Thokozani Khuphe is being subtly told she ain't rising to the top if Tsvangirai becomes incapacitated".
Methuseli Moyo asked "So the MDC-T succession structure means no woman and no Ndebele will take over. Am I correct in my analysis?".
