Former Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Charles Utete has died.
Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Mr Justin Mupamhanga confirmed the death.
He said details of the death were not yet available.
"Yes I have received that message but I do not have the details," said Mr Mupamhanga.
Dr Utete is the immediate past chairman of Zimbabwe Newspapers Limited.
Zimpapers chief executive officer Mr Pikirayi Deketeke has sent a condolence message to the Utete family on behalf of the group.
"The board, management and staff of Zimpapers extend their heartfelt condolences to the Utete family and the nation on the untimely death of long serving civil servant and immediate past board chairman Dr Charles Utete."
Before his appointment as Zimpapers chairman, Dr Utete had been a director at Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Ltd. since September 2009.
He had vast experience in the public and private sectors having been chairman of Cairns Holdings Ltd. since January 2007.
Dr Utete also chaired the boards of the Industrial Development Corporation and Seed Co Zimbabwe where he also served as a director.
He was a non executive director of Astra Industries Ltd.
Dr Utete retired from Government service in 2003 after 23 years and has been involved in business ever since.
He joined the civil service in 1981 as Secretary to the Prime Minister and Cabinet before being appointed Secretary to the President and Cabinet in 1987 in the wake of the introduction of Executive Presidency.
Dr Utete held the position until retirement.
On retirement in 2003, Dr Utete was appointed Chairperson of the Presidential Land Review Commission, which was tasked with assessing progress in the implementation of the land reform programme and to make recommendations.
