A business executive and political commentator Simba Mhuriro has said the appointment of additionally two Vice Presidents in the MDC-T by Morgan Tsvangirai was a clear succession matrix than anything else.

Tsvangirai on Saturday appointed Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri as his Vice Presidents joining Thokozani Khupe who is the first Vice President of the party.

"So everyone is losing their minds over MDC's 2 vice presidents, with good measure. Let me take a stab at it and look view it from a position of running a business," Mhuriro said.

"To me it seems nothing short of succession planning. Morgan and Thokozani have battled cancer (may the lord bless them with good health). Should they not be able to execute their duties suddenly or permanently then Elias and Nelson take the reigns."

He said the last thing you want is a leadership vacuum whilst competition heats up and you are losing market share.

"This is especially true when you are racing against time - 2018 is 2 years away. There was supposed to an election. But at times the board of directors (council) must appoint executives (officials) they deem as effective, seasoned and can carry out the mandate there are given. At times popular choices are the least effective," he said.

"At their congress may elect the best suited candidate - preferably from the above 2 so let's take this as a probation period. Meaning Nelson and Elias will be motivated and can then be selected based upon how effective they were."

He said the age gap between Nelson and Elias is also interesting.

"This means generations of leadership Nelson is young and Elias is seasoned. So MDC voters now will likely vote Elias whilst the teens will know who to look forward to who their voting for in the future," he said.
