A POTENTIAL investor has shown commitment to building a $3 million multi-purpose complex in Matabeleland North's provincial capital, Lupane, before the end of the year.
The project is set to create job opportunities for locals and be a big endorsement for investment in Lupane.
Glow Petroleum managing director Aaron Chinhara told Business Chronicle after the launch of their first service station in Bulawayo on Friday that the project would be built on a 10 000 square metre piece of land.
The service station, which was opened under a five-year lease agreement, was built to the tune of $340 000.
"We've acquired land measuring 10 000 square metres in Lupane and this is where we're going to build a $3 million complex before December 2016.
"By the 27th of August, we would have started the project, which comprises a forecourt, two banking halls, modern day supermarket and an amusement centre," he said.
"The amusement centre, which will have gaming facilities would be meant to cater for young children and teenagers including university students in Lupane."
Mr Chinhara said they were investing in Lupane to give the town a new look that meets its provincial capital status.
"Buildings in Lupane at the moment are too old save for the Government complex. The old buildings there show they were built long back, so we can't afford to have old looking blocks for a town with a provincial status," he said.
A number of development projects are earmarked for Lupane with Lupane State University, provincial registry offices, Elitsheni Government Complex, Bubi-Lupane Dam, gas and coal exploitation, being part of the major investment attractions for the town.
Glow Petroleum, which last year built a $1,8 million complex in Gwanda also plans constructing a state-of-the-art filling station in Bulawayo worth $5 million by February next year.
Land for the capital project in Bulawayo has already been secured while plans are also in the pipeline by the fuel company to extend its tentacles to Plumtree.
Mr Chinhara said they would continue investing in Matabeleland region as they are seeing a lot of opportunities.
Meanwhile, in line with the Zim-Asset's thrust on infrastructure development, the National University of Science and Technology has been tasked with redesigning a new master plan for Lupane.
The new plan will see the town expanding to a radius of between seven and 10 kilometres to cater for its intended growth that would be boosted by the relocation of Lupane State University.
Since its establishment, Lupane Business Centre has never had a master plan or structure plan.
The Local Development Plan was concluded in October 2001 and Strategic Plan (2015-2020) to guide spatial development and growth respectively.
