Govt, civil servants showdown looming

The government is headed for another showdown with civil servants after it emerged last night that it had failed to give them a firm undertaking that they would all get their July salaries on time.

Well-placed sources said a crucial meeting between the two parties that was held in Harare and meant to assure the way, apparently yield nothing as the stone broke government failed to announce concrete pay dates for the month.

The fruitless meeting came as the government as already missed the usual early pay dates for the armed forces and as concerns mount that president Robert's government has now reached a fiscal "dead-end"
