The trial of the suspended Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana who is facing charges of abuse of office has been further postponed to the 29th of August this year.

Tomana's trial was supposed to kick off this Wednesday with a new magistrate taking over.

However, both parties the defence and the state agreed to further postpone the matter.

The case was presided over by Provincial Magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe despite indications that a new magistrate was supposed to come and resume the trial.

The state has not yet consolidated the two separate dockets to allow one trial to take place and both parties have agreed to prepare for the new trial date.

Meanwhile, the prosecution has added two more prosecutors making them four to prosecute their suspended boss.

The state alleges that Tomana abused his authority as a public officer by interfering in the prosecution of some officials.

His charges dates back to around 2008 when he allegedly stopped prosecution of the then ZUPCO chief executive officer Bright Matonga, and having caused the setting aside of a conviction of corruption on Professor Charles Nherera who used to be a ZUPCO board chair.

Before his appointment as the Prosecutor General, Mr Tomana was a board member for ZUPCO.

He is also accused of having stopped the prosecution of Dr Beauty Basile who was a Bindura Hospital medical superintendent.
