Zimbabwe mobile phone users to pay ZBC licence fees
20 Jul 2016 at 17:56hrs | Views
Constitutional Court today ruled that all citizens who have gadgets capable of receiving radio and television signals should pay Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation licence fees.
Deputy Chief Justice Luke Malaba delivered the ruling.
This includes mobile phones and tablets.
Reports say Malaba said people were not being asked to pay for the services provided for by ZBC but the legislature came up with the law compelling all citizens to pay tax for possessing such gadgets.
He made the ruling on two cases by Bernard Wekare and Musango Lodge challenging the constitutionality of provisions of the Broadcasting Services Act (Chapter 12:06) on funding of public broadcasting services.
