President Robert Mugabe should immediately sack and arrest Phelekezela Mphoko for allegedly defeating the course of justice.
Recently, Mphoko caused a stir when he stormed a police station in Harare and ordered the release of two Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) officials from police custody after the duo had been arrested for allegedly defrauding the parastatal of close to $1,3 million.
The Welshman Ncube led MDC has called for Mphoko's arrest and dismissal.
"The MDC is urging the Zanu PF leader Robert Mugabe to dismiss and order the immediate arrest of his deputy Phelekezela Report Mphoko if allegations being raised against him are proven to be correct," party spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi said in a statement.
"The release of Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) bosses from police custody is a punishable criminal offence that will shock the nation if Mugabe blesses or solemnises the criminal activity."
He added, "We are calling on Vice President Phelekezela Mpoko to publicly explain his actions or be fired and arrested if everybody is still equal before the law for criminal abuse of office," he said.
