After a few week's lull, Zanu-PF's seemingly unstoppable factional and succession wars have erupted anew with the group of young party Turks who go by the moniker generation 40 said to have launched a savage assault on their erstwhile comrades backing vice president Mnangagwa to succeed president Robert Mugabe in a bid to "finish them off".

Consistently reliable Zanu-PF sources said that the gathering in Harare last Thursday by war veterans who are rallying behind Mnangagwa who took potshoots at Mugabe, had allegedly given the G40 the opportunity that they had been looking for some time to decimate the camp.

Meanwhile, in the face of mounting pressure and rejection by former freedom fighters, President Robert Mugabe has summoned a faction of war veterans to Harare and roped in the Zanu-PF youth league, in a bid to shore up numbers.

Mugabe today is expected to address a gathering fronted by a splinter group of the ex-combatants headed by Manicaland Provincial Affairs Minister Mandiitawepi Chimene and Bulawayo war veteran George Mlala, among others at the Zanu-PF headquarters. But ZNLWVA has described the meetings as illegal.
