City Council demolition of illegal structures praised

The Harare Residents Trust has said it is in fully supportive of the decision by the Harare City Council to demolish illegal structures that have been built on council land for sewerage treatment in Kuwadzana and Budiriro.
The council recently engaged in the demolition of illegal structures in the city suburbs amid outcry from the illegally allocated residents.
The trust said if these residents who have been allocated these illegal stands by newly elected Member of Parliament for Kuwadzana Betty Kaseke remain there, there is a higher risk of diseases outbreaks whenever sewerage is released onto the farm.
"Minister Kasukuwere has been visiting these farms to endorse this apparently political campaign strategy, knowing fully well that this is illegal.
"The negative consequence is disastrous to imagine, and more people would likely be infected and affected, which increases the burden on the local authority to contain diseases, considering the 2008-2009 cholera outbreak, which left plus 4 000 people dead, and tens of thousands of residents affected in Zimbabwe," said the trust.
