Zimbabwe is set to tap into the religious tourism sector which according to figures is moving 300 million people per year out of the world's 1.2 billion arrivals as recorded last year.
The move was revealed by Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi at the official launch of the 2nd Gwanda Gospel Festival in Harare.
Minister Mzembi says a number of countries among them Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Israel are benefiting from all forms of religious tourism, be it seeking spiritual help or festivals.
Organisers of the Gwanda Gospel Festival say the event is meant to resuscitate Gwanda Town as the festival has a lot of spin offs.
The theme for the festival is: 'God Is Listening And Waiting For Us To Act'.
Zimbabwe is in the process of redefining tourism to encompass all facets of life among them township tourism, religious tourism, agriculture tourism and community tourism, thus moving away from the elitist definition of tourism which encompassed the natural attractions such as the Victoria Falls.
