War vets latest: Mahiya remanded in custody

War veterans spokesperson Douglas Mahiya who was arrested on Wednesday was today remanded in custody to tomorrow morning for his bail application.
Police charged Mahiya for allegedly undermining the authority of or insulting President Mugabe.
According to Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, during his appearance, riot police initially denied lawyers representing Mahiya access to the courtroom.
When lawyer Harrison Nkomo was eventually allowed in, he ordered the release of Mahiya as there was no signed certificate of prosecution.
Scores of war veterans had gathered outside the court premises with riot police keeping a close eye.
