A DOMESTIC worker, who stole valuables worth US$682 from her employer, was caught after five months busy enjoying herself at a wedding. Theoddora Juru had stolen valuables worth US$673 from Envious Kupfuma in Helensvile on June 7 this year. The 20-year-old woman disappeared with the goods and efforts to track her down proved futile until Kupfuma gave up.

Luck
However, luck ran out for Juru who was finally apprehended by Kupfuma's friends at a wedding in Chitungwiza. On October 3, Juru was enjoying herself when Kupfuma's friend positively identified her before he alerted the police.

Bliss
Juru's moment of bliss ended prematurely when the police arrested her and took her to the police station. The case spilled into court and she appeared before Harare magistrate Audrey Tarugarira charged with theft. She denied the allegations.

However, prosecutor Chripen Mavengano managed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Juru had a case to answer. Mavengano had always suspected Juru since she was the only one with access to Kupfuma's bedroom. It was also established that a stolen bag was also recovered at Juru's house.

Kupfuma's gardener also testified that Juru was in a habit of carrying several items when she left Kapfuma's residence. As a result, the magistrate slapped her with a one-year jail term. However, four months of the sentence were set aside for five months on condition she does not commit a similar.

Six more months were deducted on condition that Juru restitute US$682 on or before January 1 2012.

On the remaining two months, Juru will languish in jail. After hearing the sentence, Juru cried uncontrollably and the magistrate simply instructed the prison officers to take her to jail.
