High Court clears tomorrow's mass demonstration

HARARE - The High Court of Zimbabwe has cleared tomorrow's mass demonstration against bond notes which the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe says it will launch in October.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police had early on banned the demonstration which coincides with another march organised by thousands of unemployed university graduates, some of whom are trying to eke out a difficult living as street vendors.
The jobless graduates are demanding the 2,2 million jobs that Zanu PF promised in the run-up to the hotly-disputed 2013 national elections.
ZimPF interim president Joice Mujuru has also reportedly engaged lawyers to file a chamber application to stop the introduction of the bond notes.
According to Kennedy Masiye, a lawyer from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Justice Lavender Makoni has ordered the police not to interfere with the demonstration.
The ZLHR had made an urgent chamber application on behalf of Transform Zimbabwe political party seeking to bar the police from interfering with a demonstration which is scheduled for tomorrow in the capital.
