There has been an escalation of violation of people's freedoms in Harare according the Zimbabwe Peace Project.
ZPP reported that during the month of June the province was a hive of activity as a number of violations were recorded. Section 58 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe states that, every person has the right to freedom of assembly and association and the right not to assemble or associate with others.
"This was not the case in Zengeza West where residents were assaulted for 13 attending a feedback meeting. Section 59 of the Constitution was also violated when the police indiscriminately assaulted members of the Occupy Africa Unity Square who were staging a peaceful demonstration," said ZPP.
"The section clearly stipulates that every person has the right to demonstrate and petition as long as the processes are conducted in a peaceful manner."
